Cooking

 In cooking we have made food.

We have made:

-Cinnamon toast. 

-Cheesy toast

-Scones

-Cheese and greens muffins. (We made this today.)

One day we had to learn about kitchen safety so we could be safe in the kitchen while cooking. 

My favourite recipes that we have made so far is the cinnamon toast and cheesy toast.

Plant Challenge.

 In class we are growing micro-greens for the wonder challenge. 

First we got an ice cream container and cut a 1cm hole in the side of it. Then we got this brown mat and measured the edges so the mat would fit in the container. Then we put it in the container, the mat was so we could grow the micro-greens without soil.

Next we got a cup of water and poured the water on the mat so that all of the map was damp, we poured out the excess water so it was not to wet.Then we got seeds and soaked them in clean water for five minutes. The seeds my group got was Mizuna seeds. After they soaked for five minutes we put them on the mat and spread them out evenly.

Then we sprayed them with water and put them back in the container.

Right now we are looking after our micro-greens by doing little tests on them each day. There is a conductivity test, light test, humidity, and temperature. They tell us about how the plants are.

Lion Dance


On Wednesday we did a lion dance. We were supposed to do the lion dance on discover china week but they could not be there because of some issues. 
First we partnered up, one person as the head, and one as the butt.
I was with Sammy an I was the butt of the lion.
We learnt some moves then we got into the costumes. There were only 4 costumes so we has to take turns.
There was a orange, red, yellow, and white lion.

When I was in the butt of the lion, Sammy had a rope tied around her waist and I held onto it while I bent down to make the lions back.

Discover China Day.

 We did a discover china day in class that went on for two days, we 5 different rotations on the course of each day.

On the first day we did calligraphy, fan dancing.

On the other day we did Chinese music, ta quan do, and martial arts.


Here I am doing Chinese calligraphy with ink and a paint brush.
We wrote 4 different words.

Here we are doing fan dancing. We all got some fans and learnt a dance to do. It was very challenging.
When the fans opened they made a big noise.



We did some Chinese music and the instruments were called Guzheng. We listend to some of the history of the Guzheng, and the Guzheng being played. Then we played it. We had two song choices to play from.




We are doing this tai quan do thing. First we looked at some weapons the man had for training then we did some tai quan do. It was fun.

Otaki Youth Space

 On Wednesday KCDC came to our school and they used our class to see what they should include in a youth space in Otaki. They were given an amount of money to spend on making the youth space feel safe and fun.

We did different stations and they split us into groups. The different stations were about where we would like the location, what we would like in it, what feeling we want to feel, how we find out information about things, and what we worry that the youth space might have.

There were lots of different opinions on things.

At the end we were asked what we would like added to Otaki, lots were adding McDonald or KFC and others were about more shops and sport courts.

It was really fun.

I thought that:

 -it should have a bookshelf for reading

-it should be near the countryside

-it might have too many rules.

The adventure of Hinepoupou.

 In Dance and Drama we read a story about Hinepoupou. We had to do a play, do a dance, or write a short script scene about the story. 

I did the script scene.

Here is mine.

(Brother) I'm sure Hine Poupou could not have followed us across Raukawa."


(Husband) You're right, we should start fishing before night falls."


(Hinepoupou) "I swam across Raukawa for 3 days and all they did was abandon me to greedily fish at the fishing ground."


(Hinepoupou) "Revenge calls me."


(Hinepoupou) "From the storm of the mountains to the breath of the sea, from the seed in the earth to the stars in the sky, may your body now rest in peace."


(Brother) The skies are turning grey, a storm is coming."

(Storm) Too late now, Hinepoupou has gotten revenge."

(Hinepoupou) "Now you may rest."

Gardening

 In class we are helping out Mike in the Horticulture block.  Mike is fixing the garden and we are helping him to do it. 

We all did something different to help. Some people did composting, soil testing, filing wheelbarrows with mulch, raking the mulch, and picking out weeds of the garden beds. This was all done over the course of a few days.

I did the soil testing, picking out weeds from the garden beds, and raking out the mulch.

My Tapa Art

In Homeroom we made Tapa art for Tongan language week. 

We used: brown paper, vivid, and dye.

First we researched some designs for ideas. On a blank piece of white paper we did a sketch of our design then we drew it onto our brown paper. 
We went over the pencil lines in black vivid. 
Once we had drawn over our line we coloured is in with black and brown vivid, leaving some space empty. Then we scrunched it up multiple times. the paper to give it texture.
After that we started to dye it, we had a few colours of dye to use for it.

I did a turtle with patterns inside of it and two pattern things on the edges.

Fractions.

 In maths we have been learning about fractions. 

We did some fraction work showing what fractions are, then we did some Education perfect, followed by some quizzes. We then showed how fractions can be written, and how they are used in everyday life.    Then moved on to some fraction problems that we had to show how to work them out.

Rocket challenge test

 In class we have been doing the rocket challenge. We all work in groups and have to complete challenges to get a sticker to move onto the next task.                                                                                                     Since most of my group was not here we had to join groups together.

Yesterday we did test flights with the rockets. We filled water bottles with water and in groups launched the rockets. We had different areas to look at. On was how much psi (pound-force per square inch) each group put in, how much water level each group put in, and notes of how it flew.

For the first few test flights the bottles flew like crazy in the air but when we added the fins on we noticed that the bottle did not spin around as much as when we did not have the fins on. 

The reason for when we did not have to fins on the bottle was because the wind caught on the bottle and made it spin around fast and there was nothing to catch it so it would not stop spinning around. 

We talked about what would happen if you took a fin off and we came up with the conclusion that the rocket would not have enough balance and would go crazy in the air.

But when we put the fins on the wind caught the fins and it had more balance so it did not go crazy and made the rocket fly far and high.

I think that when we did less water and the same amount of pressure the bottle went more straight and far because the water would drag the rocket down if we did more water but when we did less water there was more room for air pressure to launch and fly the rocket.

About Tract

 Tract is a really fun learning app that our class does. You can complete paths, donate things, earn XP, and like and follow other people.

 There are paths about lots of different types of projects. You can to art, gaming, nature and even politic paths. Paths have lots of different tasks in them, once you complete a path you get some XP, and the more paths you complete the more XP you get.

For example here are some of the paths I have done or started.

-How to write short stories.

-Elephants can go extinct in 20 years

-How to help someone with their mental health

-Making a difference

-How cheetahs run as fast as a car

So far I have 1,175 XP points and 3 followers.

Something tickles

This is my beautiful writing from on write that essay.

Something tickles

 "Your test starts now." The teacher said.

I see lots of kids heads shoot down concentrating on there test. I slowly look at my test sheet trying to focus on my work.

I pick up my pencil, and that's when I felt it.

A small tickle on the back of my neck.

The tickle moved around the back of my neck making its way down to my back.

I freeze in fear.

I hated spiders.

I knew the feeling of a spider

crawling down my back.

I stand up, interrupting the whole class as I did.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING STANDING UP AND INTERRUPTING THE WHOLE CLASS."

The teacher continued to yell at me.

But she instantly stopped when the small tickle crawled onto my face.

She slowly rolled up a newspaper and stepped towards me, before swinging the newspaper back and hitting me on the face squashing the spider as she did so.

I obviously knew she had arachnophobia.

"Y-You didn't have to slap me i-in the f-f-f-face like that." I said tears rolling down on my bruised face.

"I w-was just g-going to t-t-take him outside."

I stuttered.

"OK class get back to work now." The teacher said, completely ignoring me lying on the floor.

Sailboat sailboat

In class I made sailboats to go with our sail car races.
First I carefully planned our sailboat design so I knew what to do and then                                                      I gathered up my materials from home.                                                                                                              
I had a lot of fun making my sailboat.

I think my boat is going to float good, but I wish I could change the 
sail on it to be a bit bigger and better.

The materials I used for my boat was
-Two Plastic containers
-Skewers
-Plastic bag
-bottle caps
-Hot glue
-Scissors   
-Tape


First when I made my boat I used the plastic container as the base of the boat. Then I made a sail by cutting up some skewers and putting some tape and plastic on it.
I then cut out a keel and hot glued the sail and keel onto the boat.
I felt like the boat felt a bit light so I added 4 bottle caps onto the bottom of the boat.

I think I did well on my work this week but I think I could of done a bit better on another week.

sailboat design

 In class we have been making sailboat designs.                                                                                            On Monday I will hopefully be making my sailboat.                                                                                        The Hull on my boat will be made out of a container or a bottle if I don't have a container to use                    I will use skewers for the mast and edges of the sail and glad wrap for the sail.                                              For the keel and rudder I am using some chopped up plastic.                                                                           I might put some bottle caps on the bottom of my boat if I am unsure if it will float.                                        And if I can I will put tiny people inside the boat to see if they will survive the ride on my sailboat.                I will be gluing everything together with hot glue or taping it together.

Sail cars

 Last week in week 7 we made sail cars.

My sail car was made out of Skewers, cardboard, paper, straws and bottle caps.

My sail car has a rectangle base with a pointy arrow, 2 sails one sail at the front and one sail at the back of the car. The sail at the front of the car is smaller than the one at the back to allow more air to push the car forwards.

There is a few things on my car I want to fix up.

The main thing is the wheels, The wheels are crooked and sometimes pop out of place

The other thing I want to fix up is the sails. The sails are good but I wish I had made them more straight to have more air to push the sail car further.

Self portrait

In Home Room we all made self portraits of our self to hang up in our classroom. It took a while to finish the portrait but I had lots of fun making it and having a challenge.

First we covered a wooden board in lots of ripped up bits of news paper and found 8 words that describe our self and stuck them over top of the ripped up newspaper. Some of my words were Sports, Build, Hockey and New Zealand. 

We then painted over the newspaper with lots of different colours of paint. 

After that we got a printed paper with our face on it. (This was our practice paper before we did the real thing) We coloured on the back of the paper with black pastel then we placed the picture with the pastel facing down on another piece of paper. 

We had to trace around our face and body and when we lifted the paper up our traced face would be there.  Then after that I was able to do it on my board. I slowly traced around my face and lifted the paper up.

I was finally able to paint now. So I painted over my practice paper to get used to painting. 

Then I got to paint around the outlines of my face on my board. After I let it dry I painted shapes on the background and painted around my shapes and body with white paint. 

After the white paint dried I when over my black lines again.

The last step was to cover our portrait in some shiny stuff.
